SPOTCLEAN SPILLS ASAP
Always spotclean stains as soon as possible when you discover them by simply dabbing the stains with cold water and some baking soda, babyshampoo, dr Beckmans or Ossegalsoap.
Let it sit for at least 1 hour before washing out the soap with handwarm or cold (depending on the wrap, read your washlabel) water (be sure to use a 🌡️)
Depending on the fibres (silk need shade to ensure it won’t discolor) you can wet the stains and let dry in the sun. The sun is our friend for blow-out stains and fruitdiscolorations After using soap.
Protip: when spotcleaning use a cup to rinse instead of the tap (so the temperature won’t fluxuate) and drape the wrap over a bucket or the sink so you don’t have to wash more fabric then needed. Ensure the surroundings are clean and ensure you did not just use bleach to clean those areas. Repeat soaking & rinsing if needed. Do not rub or use a scrubdaddy. This will damage the fibres, when wet they also break more easily.
AIR OUT AFTER USE
Just like your favorite woolen sweater, you don‘t have to wash it often unless dirty. But, a sweater will at one point smell. Just like your wrap, you and your baby sweat, your baby drools and smells from eating at a grill will all sit in your wrap building up stench. If you air it out after use, you can avoid this with the result of a fresh smelling wrap.
Just 30 minutes outside or in the bathroom on a hanger while you have a hot steamy shower is enough.
STORE CLEAN & SAFE
Store your wraps only when they are freshly washed. Even just 1 crumb or a little bit of old puke is enough to lure the hoard of critters. You don’t want moths to built a nest in your wraps.
When clean you can store them in transparent crates with a block of lavendersoap and blocks of cedarwood. Try to keep those crates in a light space (not in the sun) as most critters like to nest in dark spaces.
Wraps with silk need to be rolled up over the whole width to prevent permacreasing. I can always recommend to refold your wraps and air them every couple of weeks to prevent permacrease and fibredamage.
